Not a silly question. And the answer is yes, there are snakes not just in rice fields but along the roads and sidewalks and they do sometimes enter houses and curl up trees and bushes. If you are in heavily populated places like Kuta and Seminyak you are far less likely to encounter one. They are very common in Ubud.
